Board of Directors Meeting Minutes ACBL Unit 503

Call to Order

David Merenbach, President of the Board, served as Chair of the meeting, called the meeting to order at 4:30PM and announced that a quorum of the Board members was present and that the meeting, having duly convened, was ready to proceed with business.

Approval of Meeting Minutes

Eli W. announced that the minutes of the September 13, 2023 Board Meeting were approved via email.

Finance Update

Marc C. discussed our financials. There was Net Operating Income in September and also positive Cash Flow for the month.  For the Year to Date, there is Net Operating Income and positive Cash Flow.  Both of these results are better than budget. 

Online club game attendance continues to decline.

Unit 503 membership declined 3.1% over last 12 months, to 838 members.  ACBL membership in the same time frame declined 3.5% to 129,362.

Special Events Update

Stephanie Y. gave an update on the upcoming special events to be held at the club.

The Halloween costume party will be held on October 31.  A free lecture has been added before the game at 9:30AM.  Lynn Yokel is the lecturer.

Lights in PABC Facility

Marc C. reported that Kevin O’Leary has indicated that lights in the room are starting to fail and need replacement.  A quote has been received for $2200 to replace all the bulbs with LED bulbs, parts and labor. It was proposed to authorize up to $3000 to replace the bulbs and any extra ballasts or other materials required. M/S/P.

Board Member Election Update

Dan T. reported that 5 candidates are running for election to the board in November.  Voting will be held in early November. Candidates are: Marc Cervellino, Dianne Giancarlo, Liz Koh, Geraldine MacDonald, Dan Thatte.

It was also noted that Jon Rayden has resigned from the Board.

IFES Update

John S. gave an update on the status of our lease. Several issues remain to be resolved with IFES.

Discussions will continue to be held.

SiVY

David M. reported that a camp will be held 12/26-12/30 at the club.  Casual Friday games with pizza will resume on November 10.

Annual Member Meeting

Dan T. discussed our Annual Member Meeting.  We will hold the meeting at 4:15PM November 8, followed by our November Board Meeting. The meetings will held via Zoom.

Sectional Update

Marc C. gave an update on the results of our October 5-7 Sectional.  155 tables participated, attendance comparable with our October and November Sectionals in 2022.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:45PM.
