Board of Directors Meeting Minutes ACBL Unit 503

Directors Present

David Merenbach, Marc Cervellino, Liz Koh, Geraldine MacDonald, John Rayden, John Schwartz, Dan Thatte, Eli Wismer

Call to Order

David Merenbach, President of the Board, served as Chair of the meeting, called the meeting to order at 4:00PM and announced that a quorum of the Board members was present and that the meeting, having duly convened, was ready to proceed with business.

Approval of Meeting Minutes

Eli W. announced that the minutes of the June 13, 2023 Board Meeting were approved via email.

Celebrity Lecture Series

Kathy Wheeler discussed the status of the Celebrity Lecture series.  Next lessons will be tentatively at the end of September on the 23^rd and 30^th, a two part series by Adam Parrish.  Kathy also brought up that members have requested to purchase prior lessons.  Kathy will check with the pros to see if this will be permitted.

Firecracker Review

Marc C. led this update.

62% increase in tables over 2022 Firecracker – 652 tables.

NLM Regional – 207.5 tables vs 61.5 tables of 499 or lower in 2022.

Firecracker table count still lower than pre-pandemic levels.

Finance Update

Marc C. discussed that our F2F play table count continues to grow.  Online PABC Director games continue to decline.  More people are playing F2F at the club than in PABC online games.

Net Operating Income in June was negative with negative Cash Flow. We had positive Net Operating Income and negative Cash Flow for the first six months of the year, both better than budget.

Special Events Update

David M. gave an update on recent and future special events.

Ed Barlow Birthday game had 33 tables.

Future events include a Practice Swiss game in August, the Halloween Party October 31, and

the winter Holiday Party.

Registration System Update

John S. discussed that District 21 has a reservation system we can use for a reasonable price.  John will discuss with other directors and examine this more.

IFES Update

John S. discussed current state of affairs.  He and David M. will continue to discuss our lease with IFES.

Unit Volunteers Needed

Need a Cards and Flowers volunteer.

Need a marketing/email volunteer.

Need a District Meeting attendee volunteer.

Need Co Chair for Sectionals.

VAX Policy

John S. discussed that our club Directors have dropped a vaccination requirement for their games, per District 21 policy change.

Sectional Tournament Update

Marc C. presented the Sectional Tournament schedule for the remainder of 2023 and 2024 – two remaining in 2023 and four in 2024.  All have been sanctioned.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:10PM.
