Audio can be input from a computer, from a wired or wireless microphone or from a music player or other audio device. It also provides the audio for our Video system.

Audio inputs are located at several locations in our playing area. Audio can be input at multiple locations at the same time:

  • Next to the director’s desk – for use with wired or wireless microphone or the audio output of a computer or music player (computers and music players require a special cable).
  • Under the whiteboard at the front of our playing area – for use with wired or wireless microphone or the audio output of a computer or music player (computers and music players require a special cable).
  • Under the whiteboard at the side of our playing area – for the audio output of a computer or music player.

Audio is monaural (not stereo) and our system provides the same audio to all speakers in our building (thus it can not provide different audio to different areas of our building).

Audio is monaural (not stereo) and our system provides the same audio to all speakers in our building (thus it can not provide different audio to different areas of our building).

The sound volume in our playing area can be controlled in five zones (front to back).

Audio equipment is located in the equipment rack (the black metal enclosure) on the outer wall of the women’s bathroom. Inside the rack there is an amplifier and a series of volume controls to set the volume in the various zones within our building.

Using our Audio System

Different sources have different loudness. If the microphone or music player has a gain control try using that first. If not, adjust the gain of the amplifier in the equipment rack.

Using a Wired or Wireless Microphone

  1. Connect the microphone to one of our audio jacks.
  2. Turn on the amplifier in the equipment rack.
  3. Plug the microphone or the wireless receiver into one of the jacks listed above.
  4. Turn on the wireless receiver. NOTE: The wireless receiver must be turned on before the wireless microphone.
  5. Turn on the wireless microphone.
  6. Adjust the gain on the wireless receiver.
  7. If needed, adjust the volume on the amplifier in the equipment rack.
  8. If desired, adjust the volume to each of the zones.

Using a Music Player

  1. Connect the music player to one of our audio jacks. We have several types of connectors in the AV equipment storage area.
  2. Turn on the amplifier in the equipment rack.
  3. Plug the music player into one of the audio inputs.
  4. Adjust the volume on your music player to approximately 75% of maximum.
  5. On the amplifier, select Mic 2 if using the input jack under the whiteboard at the front of the playing area or Aux 1 if using the input jack under the whiteboard on the side of our playing area.
  6. Adjust the volume on the amplifier in the equipment rack for the source (Mic 2 or Aux 2).
  7. If desired, adjust the volume to each of the zones.

Equipment

Cables

Use an XLR cable to connect a microphone to our sound system using the jack under the whiteboard at the front of our playing area.

Use an XLR cable with a mini plug adaptor to connect the headphone output on a computer to our sound system using the jack under the whiteboard at the front of our playing area.

Use a miniplug cable to connect the headphone output a computer to our sound system using the jack under the whiteboard at the side of our playing area.

Amplifier

The amplifier controls adjust the volume for:

  • Mic 1: the microphone jack at the director’s desk.
  • Mic 2: the microphone jack under the whiteboard at the front of our playing area.
  • Aux 1: the microphone jack under the whiteboard on the side of our playing area.
  • Aux 2: the audio sent along with video to our projectors.

Settings:

  • Mic 1 – set to 5
  • Mic 2 – set to 5
  • Aux 1 – set to 5
  • Aux 2 – set to 5

Increase or decrease settings to balance volumn and quality of sound from source.

Settings:

There are no numbers on the zone controls so think of them as the face of an analog clock.

  • Zones 01 through 05 – set to 3 o’clock
  • Zone 06 – set to 7 o’clock (off).

Zone Controls

The Zone Controls, located below the amplifier, adjust the volume of the following speakers:

  • Zone 01: in the playing area nearest the bathroom doors.
  • Zones 02-03: in the center of the playing area, from back to front.
  • Zone 04: in the playing area nearest the entry.
  • Zone 05: between the bathrooms
  • Zone 06: in the IFES Bar.
