This event, previously a double-elimination team knockout, has been changed to a round robin tournament.

Our Unit and the Palo Alto Bridge Center invite you to participate in a virtual round-robin team tournament starting in February. This event will be held on Bridge Base Online (BBO) and will be fun, casual, and a change from BBOmatchpoint games, and we encourage your participation.

Do you enjoy playing in bridge team games, but worry those skills are getting rusty? Or haven’t played in a team game before and are afraid to do so? Want to prepare for possible regular team games on BBO?  Never fear!

This social tournament will be held on BBO, with no fees (!) or master point awards, just bragging rights for successful teams. Top teams will have their names published in the District 21 newsletter.

Details

Teams

  • 4 to 6 persons
  • Restricted to members of Unit 503, those who have played at our Bridge Center and friends.

The tournament will begin in mid-February, so reach-out to your bridge partners, form a team, select a team captain, and sign-up soon. If you need additional players to form a team we will try to find them for you.

Tournament information

  • Stratified
  • IMP scoring
  • 12 board matches
  • Round Robin.  You will play other teams in your bracket independent of win-loss records.

There are no set dates or times for team matches. The scheduling of each match will need to be agreed-upon by the two teams. However, for the tournament to run smoothly, teams should strive to complete matches within 10 days of notification.  We will provide team captains with instructions for setting-up a team game on BBO.  The tournament coordinator will tally the scores and will schedule the opponents for the next set of matches.

For those bridge players who are inexperienced at, or never played in, a Round Robin Team tournament, here is your chance to do so in a relaxed social setting. Round Robin events are held at all Sectional and Regional tournaments generally in the form of Swiss Teams. Here is a link that discusses Duplicate Bridge Strategy: Teams vs. Pairs: Matchpoints vs IMPs.

Tournament Host:  Marc Cervellino.  Marc can be reached at 650-269-2758 or marc.cervellino@hotmail.com
