August 2024
Level:  Newcomer and Intermediate

Returning celebrity teacher and professional player, Gavin Wolpert, is back with a new seminar valuable for all duplicate players including newcomers and intermediates.

A quick way to improve your pair-game scores is to take more overtricks.  When everyone is in the same contract an overtrick can earn you as much as 25-50% more matchpoints.  This seminar will help you build a thought process as declarer that focusses on eliminating losers.  You will also learn about when it is right to risk your contract for overtricks.

Continuing after Reverses
February 2023
Level:  Advanced Intermediate and Above

The second part of the series will deal with the major problem with reverse auctions in that opener only promises 17 and responder only 6.  This means we are not necessarily going to game.  On the other hand, responder is unlimited and may have an opening hand that wants to look for slam.  This well-known problem has been solved with a modern method of having a “slow down” bid.  This class will go through the modern standard method for how responder can slow down reverse auctions by using the cheaper of 2NT and the 4th suit.  We will go through responder’s responsibilities and how opener should react.

Reverses, Jump Shifts + Common Questions
January 2023
Level:   Intermediate and Above

The first part of this two-part series will be about defining reverses and discussing the fundamental differences between strong jump shifts and reverses. We will also answer common questions like ‘Are reverses on in competition?  Do reverses in 2/1 show extras?  How forcing are reverses?’   There are so many common mistakes made related to reverses.  We will go through tons of bidding examples and iron out lots of these issues.

Dealing with Overcalls 1 & 2
January & February 2022
Level:  Low Intermediate +

Modern overcalls are getting lighter and lighter every day. It is critical that we have a firm understanding of what our bids mean in order not to let overcalls push us around. These seminars take a step-by-step approach to discussing the various positions we find ourselves in after the opponent’s overcall.

These seminars will benefit the low intermediate level and work their way up.  They cover those pesky situations when opponent’s overcall leaves you scratching your head as to what to bid.  They review some common negative double situations, as well as responders 2-level bids in competition.  They then shift to discuss opener’s rebid in competition including what is forcing and what isn’t, how to express a fit, when to drive for game.
