As a result of my Palo Alto Unit Board Presidency terming-out, I am excited to announce that the Unit has a new president effective January 1st. Yesterday, the Unit 503 Board elected the Board Officers for 2024. It is my great pleasure to introduce Liz Koh as our Board President.
Liz has been on the Unit Board since February 2023. She currently runs the Unit’s Mentor Program and expanded it to include Unit members of any level who wish to have a mentor. She co-chaired the Unit’s Non-Life Master sectionals in Sep 2021 and Feb 2022.
Liz and her family moved from Singapore to Greater London where she graduated from Imperial College, London with a Math degree and she worked as an investment banker at Rothschild advising governments and corporations in mergers and acquisitions. She and her husband moved to America in early 2008.
Liz was introduced to bridge in Connecticut and fell in love with it. She says, “playing bridge has been a wonderful way to make new friends and connect with the community whenever we moved to a new place”.
Liz volunteered in several roles and was on the boards of international women’s clubs in Chicago and New Jersey and organized multiple social bridge groups in different cities. In Northern California, she was on the Board of The Center for Bridge Education (CBE) in San Francisco, focused on marketing and promotion, and taught bridge to kids at schools and online. She volunteered in the SF-based startup Planet Bridge, promoting the organization which teaches bridge online. Since moving to Unit 503, she has enjoyed working with fellow Unit volunteers, and would like to continue to contribute.
Liz said, “I look forward to working with everyone in our Unit and our Board to continue to rebuild our bridge community”. She welcomes suggestions, ideas and would like to engage new volunteers to get involved.
In addition to electing Liz the following officers were elected or re-elected:
· Stephanie Youngquist – Vice President
· Marc Cervellino – Treasurer
· Dianne Giancarlo – Secretary
I will remain on the Board in a non-officer role.
Please join me in welcoming our new officers and wishing them luck in the coming year.
Best regards –
David
