The Firecracker is this Wednesday through Sunday! Unit 503 celebrates our country’s independence by hosting what is traditionally ACBL’s largest Super Sectional each year. It is a great opportunity to earn Silver Points! You can find out the daily itinerary of games to be played each day on the schedule. Coffee and lunch will be available for purchase each day.
Highlights from this week’s Firecracker include:
· Stratified pairs every day to allow more balanced competition
· Swiss Team Events Thursday, Friday, Saturday& Sunday
· FREE 0 – 20 master point game Saturday morning at 10:00AM.
Last month in the newsletter highlighting the individuals who had great accomplishments at the Reno Nationals, I neglected to mention that two Unit members won the May STaC event. Valerie Baldwin and Todd Makler each won more that 11 Silver Points in the May STaC. Congratulations to you both!
June featured Donna Compton as part of our celebrity lecture series. Her June 11th Zoom lecture on “Using Dummy on Defense” was both a deep topic and one that was immediately helpful for players at the novice level and above.
ACBL and District 21 made a number of decisions in June. Among the changes that will impact us here at Unit 503 is the approval of another Royal STaC later this year where players will be able to earn black, silver, red and gold points. Additionally, they have limited the number of points that online “consortiums” can reward to protect our own virtual clubs and in-person games.
Our Unit Games this month are scheduled to July 17 and July 31. July 17 is a pairs game at noon both at the PABC and online. July 31 is scheduled as a Swiss game. Sign-upnow for the in-person games. If you have questions you can contact Will at watsonbridge@gmail.com.
