Happy New Year! I am Unit 503’s new Board President, and I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for being part of our bridge community, particularly in light of the challenges we face after the Covid pandemic. Our goals are simple: to ensure the financial health of our Unit by increasing bridge activities and engagement within our community.
I am excited to highlight some current and upcoming events for you
- Daily in-person Club Games at our wonderful Bridge Center and other sites:
PABC club games - Monterey Regional – currently ongoing from Monday, January 1 – Sunday, January 7:
Monterey Clambake Regional - Amber Lin Celebrity Lecture – via Zoom – Saturday, January 27 at 9:30 AM:
Amber Lin celebrity lecture - NEW: NLM Sectionals at the Bridge Center – starting in February, on Monday, February 5 at 10:30 AM, we plan to hold regular one-day one-session Non Life Master sectional tournaments, awarding 100% silver masterpoints. NLMs with fewer than 500 masterpoints are eligible to play.
- NEW: Monthly Swiss Team club games at the Bridge Center – starting in February, on Monday, February 12 at 10:30 AM, we plan to hold a monthly Swiss Team club game.
- Bridge classes at the Bridge Center: PABC bridge classes
- Silicon Valley Youth Bridge (SiVY) Casual Fridays and Pizza Parties for youth players at the Bridge Center: SiVY website
- Mentor Program for our Unit members: Unit 503 Mentor Program
- Palo Alto Unit Open Sectional & Non Life Master Sectional at the Bridge Center– four days Thursday, March 21 – Sunday, March 24.
A huge thank-you to all our amazing volunteers: tournament chairs and their volunteers, special event organizers and their volunteers, volunteer mentors, lecture organizers, volunteer lecturers, website volunteer, operations volunteers, and Board members. We need more volunteers – we need you! I hope one of your new year’s resolutions is to volunteer some of your time with us! Suggestions, ideas, and comments are also welcome.
