Before I start my monthly recap, I want to remind everyone that tomorrow the celebrity lecture series continues on Zoom at 9:30 with Robert Todd. The $25 fee is an incredible value to hear one of the world’s best bridge teachers discuss “Is it forcing? How forcing is it?”

Also… before we review March’s activity, the annual Unit 503 members meeting will be held via Zoom on April 11 at 3:45. Members will have an opportunity to ask questions of the Board and get a status update into the health of the Unit.

On to our recap, March was exciting on two key fronts. First, we were able to open for face-to-face bridge.  We had more than 100 pairs participate in the Royal STAC and we are seeing new faces every week. I want to personally invite you back to the bridge center. Check our schedule of games here. Please sign up in advance for games.

The second really exciting news from March is that we will be hosting the FIRECRACKER Sectional from July 6-10that the Palo Alto Bridge Center this year. We are most fortunate that our past president, Geraldine Macdonald, and our treasurer, Marc Cervellino, have volunteered to Co-Chair the event. We could not have a better pair to lead the planning for this event. They will need many volunteers over the next several months to pull off what is generally considered the premiere bridge tournament on the Peninsula each year.

In addition to the celebrity lecture series there are several special games in April:

  • April 7 – Mentor/Mentee and beginner’s game.  This will be a special section of our regularly scheduled Thursday 10:30 game. This is a game for beginners too. If you have a spouse, sibling, child or friend that would like to try our beloved game, come with them and get them all feeling good about the game of bridge. Just remember to please sign-up.
  • April 10 – Unit pairs game in person & online. Unit games offer extra points and are an important part of our financial stability.
  • April 24 – Unit Swiss team game.

If anyone needs a partner for a face-to-face game, they can seek one by adding their name to the “I need a partner” place on the game registration page or by contacting our partner desk which can be found here.

I would also like to congratulate the following Unit 503 members who achieve a new ACBL Rank in February:

Junior Masters: Nicole C. Batchelder, Lisa Steiny

Club Masters: Georgia Lee, Joseph Murray

NABC Masters: Kathleen K Danforth

Life Masters: David Merenbach, Roman L. Weil Jr.

Silver Life Masters: Richard R. Herzog

Our Next Board Meeting is April 11th following the membership meeting.

We are thrilled that bridge has returned to the PABC. We hope to see you there. As always, if you have questions, comments or concerns I can be reached at merenbach@yahoo.com.

Best regards –

David
