Welcome to our New Website!

We’re now PaloAltoBridge.org with a fresh, new look.  But PaloAltoBridge.com will still get you here.

Almost nine months ago we started the process of developing a new website that would be easier to use and easier to maintain.  We think we’ve done that.  In addition to a fresher appearance, our new website is easier to read on all devices, especially small devices such as tablets and phones.

Some of the major changes you will see are:

  • Easier to read with larger fonts and more ‘white space’.
  • Pages automatically organize themselves for better viewing on all size devices.  If you’re on a desktop or laptop, make your browser window thinner and thinner on a page with multiple columns and watch what happens.
  • Announcements are now part of the main menu.  This is where you will find the latest information about special games and tournaments, education and general information.  You should plan to look at these every day you use the website.
  • A new News section where you can read Unit news.
  • A new Event Calendar which shows all Club Games, Education Programs and Special Events and allows users to select any one of those types of events for easier viewing.
  • A new Bridge Center Calendar showing all events held at the Bridge Center.  This will greatly aid scheduling use of our facility.
  • Unfortunately, your old bookmarks will no longer work.  You will need to save new bookmarks to pages of interest.

We undertook this effort for several reasons, primarily:

  • Provide a better viewing experience for people on small devices such as tablets and phones.  The techie term for this is ‘responsive design’.
  • Allow content to be updated by multiple people.
  • Host the website source on a commercial server accessible by multiple people and with improved backup.

We also got improved security.  Although our previous website was never hacked, our new site is monitored by a commercial security company.

Although it’s been extensively tested, we’re still fine-tuning it and learning how it works.  If you find a problem or have a comment or suggestion please use the Unit > Contact Us menu to let us know.

Our website is hosted on WordPress, a content management system that hosts 30% (almost 70 million) of all websites worldwide.  Development was done by Reliqus Consulting, an Indian tech firm that came highly regarded (and we agree).  Jody Williams and Alan Templeton coordinated and tested the development with support from several unit members.
