Call to Order

Liz Koh, President of the Board, served as Chair of the meeting, called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM and announced that a quorum of the Board members was present and that the meeting, having duly convened, was ready to proceed with business. Geraldine MacDonald agreed to take minutes of the meeting to cover for Diane’s absence.

Approval of Meeting Minutes

Liz Koh announced that the minutes of the September 10, 2024, Board Meeting were approved via email.

Celebrity Speaker Series

We have had 5 Celebrity speaker sessions this year, and Kathy Wheeler has done an excellent job organizing and running this series. The Celebrity Speaker Series is a profitable source of revenue for the Unit.  Kathy has asked to step down from her role as coordinator of this series but will help as we transition to a new volunteer.

Financials

Marc Cervellino presented a summary of financials for the year. Over all table counts are increasing slightly but we are projecting an operating loss for the year.. Also discusses the upcoming sectional, with preparations on track. Sectionals for the year are a profitable revenue stream for the Unit.

Discussion ensued on ways to increase face to face play at the club, including things like Swiss team games, special event parties and coordinating more I/N events.

Plans are underway for a Holiday Party in Dec. but a final date has not been selected.

The D21 board reorganization was also reviewed to supply input from the Unit 503 board to our representatives to the D21 board.

The Board meeting adjourned at 5pm and continued in Executive Session to discuss Unit contractual issues.
