ACBL Unit 503 Meeting Minutes 1/08/07
The meeting was called to order by President Alan Cummings. All board members were present except for Liz Blum, Roy Robinson, Maria Brabb, and Claire Coleman. Gene Drew was also present.
Administrative
December’s minutes were approved.
There was no Kibitzer report. Elinor was having some body part replaced.
Alan T. gave an extensive treasurer’s report. He now has all income and payments going to or coming from the proper entity (i.e., the Center or the Unit). Our finances are now being audited by Tom Stevens. The Unit has a balance of $35022.67, and the Bridge Center has a balance of $15792.38. Alan also included the Bridge Center table count. The count continues well above last year. In fact November of 2006 was about 13% above November of 2005.
Alan C. really did not have much between-meetings activity to report.
At our esteemed leader’s request, Gene Drew talked about etiquette at the Bridge Center. He touched on many subjects, and the board members pitched in with their favorites. These included:
1. Arrive at games on time.
2. Keep the tables clear.
3. Be pleasant when you sit down.
4. Remember the Center is our home away from home. Don’t be pigs (forgetting that some of us are pigs at home).
5. Keep the noise level down.
6. No gloating at the table (particularly over opponents’ mistakes).
7. Play in tempo and watch the body language.
8. And many people’s favorite, do not spend a lot time over travelers (some even had the temerity to suggest that we should eliminate travelers).
Old Business
The new constitution and bylaws will be voted on at the next (Jan. 14th) unit game
Kibitzer mailing was discussed. The faithful unit secretary has received no individual requests for mailed Kibitzers (as per a note in the last Kibitzer), so Kibitzers will no longer be mailed.
New Business

April 15 | Charity Pairs (some may need charity on this date) |
May 20 | Mentor/Mentee and LM/NLM |
June 24 | Pairs |
July 4th | Firecracker Sectional |
August 12 | Pairs |
September 16 | Pairs |
October 14 | Swiss Teams |
November 18 | Thanksgiving potluck pairs |
December 16 | Holiday Party Pairs |
The board made suggestion about the types of games. Many wanted more team games including (perhaps) a compact knockout. Also mentioned were board-a-match games and handicapped pairs. All suggestions will be considered.
Some of the Firecracker game times came under mild fire. A certain young member of the board (who shall go nameless) said that 10:00 AM game times was too early for young players (Stanford Students?). There were also others who felt that some of the games should start at the more traditional (1:00 PM and 7:30 PM) times.
We then adjourned.
