ADMINISTRATIVE:

District Representative – Grant reported that Gabriella Bowling has resigned her position as Co-District 21 Representative and that he is looking for her replacement.

March’s Minutes were approved.

Kibitzer Report – Elinor indicated that the April issue will contain 6 to 8 pages and a standard 350 copies will be printed. She also reported receiving a number of communications from ACBL including the March quarterly QUIP report. Our Unit ranked near the top in active membership trend and limiting member losses.

Treasurer’s Report – The Unit had a net loss of $5.8K for March, but showed a profit of $3.3K for the first quarter.  The loss for the month was due to payment of expenses of $6.7K for the Intermediate II class; the associated class fees were received in January. Assets for the Unit were $63K at quarter end. The Bridge Center had a loss of $2.7K for the month, but for the quarter Income was positive at $1.2K.  The monthly losses were due to miscellaneous expenses plus slightly lower rental income caused primarily by member attendance at the Reno Nationals. The Board discussed the savings account and CD’s, which are currently generating very low interest, but a decision was made to make no changes at this time.  Assets for the Center were $38.9K at March 31. The Education Fund was essentially flat for the month.

Unit Games Report – The Board voted unanimously to make the Sunday May 23rd Swiss Team Unit Game, free to all 199er teams playing in the 199er section. Also a reminder that the 1st Peninsula Challenge will be held in San Mateo on Saturday, April 24th.

ITEMS INITIATED BY BOARD MEMBERS:

Handicapped Parking – The Board decided it was best to address the parking issue as an integral part of the upcoming relocation plan.

Keys to Bridge Center – John has started a signup sheet to keep a record of all the Bridge Center keys issued and outstanding.

Analysis of Hand Records – John presented a very detailed look at the cost of printing hand records at the Bridge Center. His analysis showed that it costs approximately 5 cents per page, much cheaper than other outside vendors. As a result, the Board voted to charge outsiders 6 cents per page. John is also collecting used print cartridges and getting a credit from Office Depot.

MISCELLANEOUS:

Don Rothschild Letter – Don sent a letter to the Board asking for adoption of his proposal to implement scoring results across the full field at all two section Unit Games. John pointed out that fewer pairs would get master points and the ultimate decision is up to the game owners and directors.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:00PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Terry Lancaster
