March 5, 2020
Due to the Corona Virus outbreak here in Santa Clara County, the Unit Board of Directors and Game Owners have decided to suspend regular and unit games as well as other events at the Bridge Center starting immediately.
The Santa Clara Public Health Department recommendation from their web page is as follows:
The County Public Health Department is recommending that organizations that primarily serve seniors or medically vulnerable individuals:
· cancel mass gatherings (e.g., a large bingo gathering, movie screening, etc.);
· ensure they are extra vigilant in following recommendations regarding cleaning of high touch surfaces, including counters, tabletops, doorknobs, bathroom fixtures, toilets, phones, keyboards, tablets, and bedside tables;
· take all necessary measures to ensure all employees, visitors, and persons served who are experiencing any symptoms of illness stay home and avoid contact with others; and
· enhance screening of visitors, staff, and residents for symptoms of acute respiratory illness (e.g., fever, cough, difficulty breathing).
We are also postponing the annual membership meeting scheduled for March 12th. We will reschedule when appropriate.
We are postponing the Non-Life master Regional Tournament that was to be held March 14 and 15.
We are suspending the Free Lecture Series until further notice.
In addition, classes being held by Kathy Harper, Anna Ravenscroft and Frank Smoot will be suspended. You will hear from the instructors regarding the schedules.
Will Watson has indicated that we will work to set up some private game events on BBO so that we can all play comfortably and safely from our homes. Stay tuned for more information.
We remind you that we use Pianola for email addresses, so we urge you to notify your partners who may not have signed on to Pianola or did not put their email addresses into it.
We will keep you updated as the situation develops. Please check the Unit web site for further updates.
Please stay healthy and hope to see all of you soon.
Gerry MacDonald, President, Unit 503 Board of Directors
