Members present were Mike Atherton, Valerie Baldwin, Sue Barkley, Steve Barasch, Keith Burnett, David Crosley, Sue Griswold, Lu Isaacs, Margot Livenspargar, John Mattis,Beverly Nuding, Kevin O’Leary, Henryk Szeynwald and Allan Wolman. Also attending were Lori Spaeth, Elinor Tanck, Duane Coleman and Alan Templeton.

New Building Alan Templeton took interested board members on a tour of the new building. The plans have been approved and the building now conforms to the plans. The building inspector came and the construction looks good to date, but the Fire and Health departments need to sign off on the job before we can begin the drywall. We hope to begin insulation and drywall on Monday. Handicap access will be on the north side of the building. The city approved work being done on weekends, but we will need a permit to do so. Lou brought a sample of the chosen carpet. John suggested a chair rail to protect the sheet rock wall. Mike has checked with the planning department. Two issues remain: sound level and excessive parking on overlap events which IFES and a neighborhood group are working on. We now have a temporary use permit. The formal hearing with the planning department will take place late January. IFES has obtained an attorney knowledgeable in working with cities.

The November minutes were approved.

Kibitzer Elinor said it should be a 6 page issue and hopes to distribute it at the Unit game on December 18. John suggested we promote that event by email.

Unit Game Keith said there may be as few as 4 – 5 pairs for the 199er game. He asked for a $300 budget for the event and the board approved.

Treasurer’s Report Bev reported that the balance sheet for the Bridge Center account shows $161,663 and the Education Fund shows $7368.78. We got our deposit back from Twisters.

The board discussed a giveaway for the grand opening and decided on 400 coffee cups to say “Bridge Center of Mountain View Unit 503”.

Items Initiated by Board Members Val said there will be a new twist to the Saturday lesson. One day per month we will have the same format with mentors and we will continue with the conventions in Seagram’s book. The other monthly game will be on defense, geared toward beginner/intermediate players. There will be a prerecorded lecture by Seagram or other renowned teachers followed by play of 6 hands. After each hand the teacher will come back on screen to discuss the bidding and play of the hand The fee would need to be raised. Ally has arranged to have Barbara Seagram give lectures a few days before the San Francisco National. We could possibly have her lecture here.

Firecracker Steve is planning to have the Firecracker schedule printout available at the Monterey tournament. Allan said we need a new partnership chair for the event.

It was suggested that we get new stackable chairs possibly like those at JCC. The board approved $15,000 for new chairs.

There will be no Unit Game in January. The next board meeting will be Tuesday, January 10 at 3:45.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:11 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Sue Barkley, Secretary
