Board of Directors Meeting Minutes ACBL Unit 503

Call to Order

Liz Koh, President of the Board, served as Chair of the meeting, called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM and announced that a quorum of the Board members was present and that the meeting, having duly convened, was ready to proceed with business. Dan Thatte took meeting minutes for board secretary Dianne Giancarlo.

Approval of Meeting Minutes

Liz Koh announced that the minutes of the Oct 8, 2024, Board Meeting were approved via email.

Other Business

David M gave a report on the subcommittee to look into the future of Wednesday night and Friday club games going into 2025. He thanked the group members Marc C, Dana S, Liz K, Dianne G and consultant/advisor John S. He announced that both the clubs will continue to hold games into 2025 with some changes to their ownership.  

Marc C presented detailed analysis and results of the sectional tournaments held this year. Our recent 4-day October PABC sectional held at our bridge center was highly successful. Many non-life-master players played in the tournament.

Marc Cervellino presented a summary of financials for the year. Table counts are steadily increasing, and October was a good month because of the sectional tournament. Year to date in 2024, we did not consume any cash. However, we are projecting an operating loss for the year because in Nov and Dec we have no sectionals.

Marc presented the 2025 proposed budget, and it was approved as presented. 

Liz gave an update about the Marketing Committee’s efforts:

– Rebecca Merenbach is volunteering and is designing a new logo for us.  Committee will present some logos to the Board to choose from.

– With Pete Moulds’s help, the Committee came up with a new tag line “Play, Laugh & Learn” to use with our marketing efforts.  We have been using this in our email blasts.  Board members were happy with the adoption of the new tag line

Plans are underway for a Holiday Party on Dec. 15.

We will be holding some of the grand National Tournament games at our Bridge Center.

Dan T reported that we held our annual board of directors’ elections in 3 locations (Mountain View bridge center, Los Altos country club and Vi in Palo Alto) for 2025 board members.  All 6 candidates were elected. The BOD now consists of 11 members.
