SUMMARY:Card Combinations (for Sane People)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \n\n\n\n\nChris Chung\n(339) 245-2082 \n  \n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Chris Chung has completely changed the way I think about bridge. Rather than asking students to memorize rules\, he explains the logic behind the game\, making bidding and play much easier to understand and remember. His enthusiasm is contagious\, he’s approachable and encouraging\, and he makes every lesson enjoyable. Thanks to Chris\, I’m not only having more fun playing bridge—I’m also taking my game to the next level.\n– Kelly H \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Card combinations are to bridge as scales are to music. All serious musicians practice their scales every day… so we as bridge players better know our card combination fundamentals! \nHowever\, card combinations are a lot more complex than musical scales (trust me.) How can we possibly learn and memorize all of them? They can be endlessly complex to figure out at the table. \nChris loves categorizing card combinations into patterns and heuristics that you can use to aid your memory. Know the core concepts behind your most typical combinations — they are often going to be your trump suit\, so you better learn to handle them well! In addition\, Chris will give you options on how to handle these combinations depending on the context of the hand. \nDon’t let card combinations drive you insane! This is Chris’s Card Combinations for Sane People! \nIntended for Intermediate+ players with up to 1500 master points. \nSyllabus \n\nChris’ Ever Nevers – Go with the Odds\n9-card fits\, know these tips.  Un-guessing\, Marking the Jack\, Avoidance\n(Un) Restricted Choice\nOnside now?  Onside later.\nFinal\, Small\, Short – Unblocking and Entry Preservation\nUnderstanding the Needs of the Hand and Combination\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Class \n30 minute lecture and then one hour of play related to the topic. \nLecture materials\, guided notes and inks to the hands with suggested declarer play/defensive lines will be provided. \nCoffee\, tea and light snacks included. \nCourse Instructor \nChris Chung has been an avid social bridge player for most of his career\, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t take the game seriously! 19th out of 204 in the Life Master Pairs in 2025\, and NAP Flight A Championship in 2026\, Chris not only plays at a high level\, but knows that the game must be played for fun\, not for obeying arbitrary rules session in and session out. \nHe has coached the Stanford bridge club for 7 years\, taught people of all ages (9 to 80\, seriously!)\, and is equally welcoming to beginner and advanced alike. When he was more active in the duplicate scene\, a few players referred to him as “Mr. Smiles.” Chris will always meet you at your level and try to explain fundamental bridge concepts in an easy and sensical\, digestible way. \nMore[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \n\nPayment \nAfter registering\, below\, you may pay online\, by Zelle or check to hold your spot: \nOnline:  Use this link to make your payment. \nZelle:  Send $144 to bridge-with-chris. It will show a payment to Yarby LLC under bridge-with-chris \nCheck:  Mail a check made out to Christopher Chung or Yarby LLC in the amount of $144 to: \n\nChris Chung\n3135 Bandera Dr.\nPalo Alto\, CA 94304[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]
